Nina L. Camic has been tracking the developments in Ukraine closely. The idea that a hostile Russian army should invade a neighboring country is not new to her: she lived in Poland in the 1950s and 1960s and the threat of a Soviet invasion was also something to worry about. Camic’s memoir, Like A Swallow: Looking Back at a Polish Childhood, tracks her life as she moves between New York and Warsaw. Each immigrant’s story is unique and the reasons for leaving your home country are rarely straightforward. Camic’s memoir is a fascinating exploration of one person’s journey from Poland to United States.
